THE VISIBLE BUSINESS
A Monthly Newsletter for Local Businesses Who Refuse to Stay Invisible
Issue #1: Google Just Changed Everything (Again). Here's What You Do.
THE ONE THING
Check your Google Business Profile right now.
Open Google. Search your business name. Look at the box that shows up on the right (or top on mobile).
Ask yourself:
If you answered "no" to any of those, you're leaking customers to competitors who answered "yes."
This takes 15 minutes. Do it today.
Google's December 2025 update made complete, active profiles even more important for local rankings. Businesses showing recent activity are winning.

Google's December 2025 Core Update: What It Means for You
Google just finished rolling out their third core update of 2025.
The facts:
- Started: December 11, 2025
- Completed: December 29, 2025 (18 days)
- This was the third core update of 2025, following March and June updates
What changed (plain English):
Google is getting better at identifying content that genuinely helps users versus content that just exists to rank. According to Search Engine Land, the update is "a regular update designed to better surface relevant, satisfying content for searchers from all types of sites."
What this means for local businesses:
If your website has thin pages that say basically nothing—you're at risk. If your website has real information about your services, your process, your team, your location—you're in good shape.
The fix: Add one genuinely helpful page to your site this month. Answer a real question your customers ask. "How much does X cost in [your city]?" or "How long does Y take?"
You're Losing Deals By Being Slow. Here's the Data.
78%
of customers buy from the company that responds first.
Not the best company. Not the cheapest. The first one to respond.
More data that should concern you:
- Businesses that respond to leads in 5 minutes or less are 100x more likely to connect and convert opportunities
- The chance of qualifying a lead drops by 80% after the first five minutes
- The average B2B response time is 42 hours
What to do about it:
If you can't respond to leads within 5 minutes personally, you need automation. A chatbot. An automated email sequence. Something. Because while you're "getting to it when you have time," your competitor is closing the deal.
TOOL OF THE MONTH
Fathom — AI Meeting Notes That Actually Work
If you do any video calls (sales calls, client meetings, consultations), Fathom handles the note-taking so you can focus on the conversation.
What it does:
- Joins your Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams calls
- Records and transcribes automatically
- Generates AI summaries with action items
- Syncs with your CRM (HubSpot, Salesforce)
Pricing (verified January 2026):
| Free | Unlimited recordings, 5 AI summaries/month |
| Premium | $19/month — unlimited AI summaries |
| Team | $29/month — collaboration features |
| Team Pro | $39/month — advanced analytics |
The real value: An enterprise sales team eliminated 15 hours per week of CRM data entry across their 30-person team using Fathom's automation.
Note: Fathom joins meetings as a visible participant. All attendees can see the bot is recording. No stealth mode—which is actually good for transparency.
REAL TALK
The Business That Posts Wins
I talked to a contractor recently. Good guy. Great work. 15 years in business.
His competitor—younger, less experienced—is crushing it. Why?
The competitor posts on Instagram 3x a week. Before/after shots. Quick tips. Team photos.
My guy? Hasn't posted since 2022.
Here's the reality: When someone searches for a service and two businesses come up, they check social media. One has an active feed showing recent work. One has tumbleweeds.
Who would you call?
You don't need to be an influencer. You just need to show up consistently so people know you're still in business and doing good work.
2 posts a week. That's it.
